Love this place! Food is so tasty and flavorful! I've tried the Chicharrones De Pollo and Lechon Asado and I love them both! Must try!

I was very impressed with this restaurant. I've driven by it a million times and never tried it before. As soon as you sit down you get chips and salsa, which was fresh and delicious. They have happy hour on weekends, which is unheard of and our waiter was super friendly and helpful. He even offered to read the menu for me when I realized I left my glasses home. All the staff we interacted with was really friendly. Our food came fast and was great. Margaritas, although were happy hour, were not watered down. I will definitely be back

The food was OK but our server was so inexplicably rude that we won't ever come back. I understand that waiters have bad days too, but there was nothing special about this restaurant that would make me really WANT to come back. I'll just go to one of the many nearby dining options.

My husband and I came to El Mariachi last night for the first time. It was a Sunday night and to our surprise it wasn't busy at all. We were seated right away and our server introduced himself. The restaurant was decorated beautifully. We used to come to this same exact location when it was known as the toad a few years ago. I ordered my favorite cuban dish which is chiarrones de pollo aka chicken chunks with rice, beans and plantains. My husband ordered the cuban steak and we got a side of toastones and yuca fries. The chicken chunks were just as good as my favorite cuban restaurant las vegas in fort lauderdale. They were spot on!!!! My husband loved his steak. Their toastones were the best I've ever had. The only thing missing was the dipping sauce for the toastones but they were still awesome!! Another great thing was the free tortilla chips and salsa they served, soooooo delicious, yum!! Next time we go back I'm going to try their margaritas. Overall a great experience, great service, great food, nice atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!!! :-)

Really awesome outdoor area to eat and watch sports, additionally the service was outstanding! Great attentive servers that helped one another out. Food was great, especially enjoyed the El Original Burrito! Highly recommend

I've been here twice now. The first time the food was amazing I ordered the Mexican steak, and everything was well cooked and I had no issues what so ever. The second time I went not so much. I ordered a chicken burrito and everything was perfect until a long piece of plastic was discovered inside of my burrito. I told they staff and they took it away and offered me another one. No apologies were given a manager didn't come out to speak with us, nothing. The customer service for this type of situation was not up to par. I will not be returning to this place. Lol well maybe for a drink, but not for the food!

This place was really good. We ordered the Lechon Asado. For $14, we got a pile of shredded pork. It was delicious, juicy, and tender. There was a bit of sweetness to it, but nothing overwhelming. I would definitely order this again. The sweet plantains were also delicious and a great pairing for the dish. The salsa left something to be desired as it had no spice. It was basically tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. Salsa should have fresh chilis. I excuse this because Florida is known as having a low preference for spice. The restaurant is probably catoring to most of their customers. Still, it would be nice to have the option of getting real salsa or Florida salsa. The chips were fresh.

I came here for dinner last night with my bf and a friend. This is maybe the 3rd or 4th time we've been here. This place is great! While it's not "authentic" Mexican (I would say it's more Tex Mex) the food is damn delicious! Their menu consists of not only Mexican dishes but Cuban cuisine as well. The first time we visited we sat at the bar and we ended up staying there the whole night. We did the same on this visit because we wanted to be served by Hector the bartender (unfortunately he only works Wednesday nights and Friday nights). What a pleasure he is. So helpful and attentive and makes GREAT menu recommendations (not to mention he makes a mean margarita) His service is outstanding. We never had empty glasses and always had a full basket of chips and salsa (which are awesome!) if you like spicy as much as I do ask them for the green salsa! I had the Chicken steak Milanesa (a Cuban specialty) as my entree on this visit. For those not familiar it's a breaded, pounded thin chicken breast covered in a red "creole style" sauce then covered with a slice of Cuban ham and melted cheese. All the Cuban dishes come with a side of white rice, black beans and sweet plantains. I opted for tostones instead (which are less ripe plantains smashed flat and fried crispy). My meal was delicious. My BF had the Tampiqueña (a Mexican specialty) and my friend had the Lechon Asado (roast pork) meal (another Cuban specialty) refer to the pictures I posted for details. I, of course had to sample their dishes as well. They were all yummy! The portions are definitely in line with the pricing. The food consistently comes out warm, fresh and fast. You must try the fried ice cream for dessert Another nice touch was a singer they had performing live. It provided great entertainment and ambiance for the night. They have TV's set up in the bar area and a really nice outdoor seating area that is great for big groups and to watch sporting events. Our last visit here was for Cinco de Mayo. This place was packed!!! They had a big tent with tables and chairs outside and a stage with a live bad. Good times!! While I will not say that this is the best Mexican food I've ever had I'm giving them 5 stars because the food is consistently delicious, there's a great ambiance, the service has always been top notch and we will definitely come back to visit our "friend" Hector!

Staff was okay, they don't speak much, I wouldn't come back...food was bland and tasted old. Chips were hot and fresh, salsa tasted homemade. This restaurant is a little dingy the booths look old and dirty.

My favorite Mexican spot! I love their food and delicious margaritas . Go check them out

This place is awesome. We drive up from Davie to eat here. They used to have two locations by us but closed them down for some reason. We have not been pleased with any other Mexican restaurant so its worth the 20 minute drive. We've never been disappointed. I just wish they wouldn't charge for every extra sour cream we get. We are big on sour cream!!!

  • Kerrie M.

I like this place. The food is good, the drinks are good, and the service has always been nice. The food and drinks are not the greatest I have had, but it is consistently pretty good. We come here every so often, as it is the closest (and best) place to my home that serves Latin food and alcohol. The ambiance is relaxed, and the noise level is typically pretty low to moderate. I love the consistency and the service here... Consistency is hard to find in this area, so I am thrilled with any place that has it! If the food and/or drinks improved a bit, this would absolutely be 5 stars for me. Even so, I still recommend El Mariachi!

  • Lisa C.

Guacamole wasn't the real avocado chunk kind... Salsa had a strange aftertaste but my salad with garbanzos were tasty. My husband and daughter didn't like their meals either so we won't be back. We weren't the ones who chose this lunch location and we went to be with family so it was all about the company for us (and that part was good).

  • Ana K.

Nice place and nice atmosphere but I wasn't too fond of the dish I ordered. I ordered the Lechon Asado. It seemed overly priced for the amount of food that was actually on my plate. It was also extremely dry. I hope to give this place a try again in the future! Maybe it was just a bad day :)

    (3)
  • Melissa M.

I had to make up for the horrible nachos that I had the previous day elsewhere. After reading plenty of reviews online we decided to come here. I can honestly say that I am so glad we did. The ingredients were fresh and delicious! They use shredded chicken on the nachos so you get a piece of chicken with every bite! The margaritas were well made. It was a great stop for lunch and we will definitely return!

$4.48 for a bottle of Bud? On a Sunday at 3pm? The place was dead, I told the server that's ridiculous, and he agreed--although he hardly spoke a word of English. You can smell the failure in some places as soon as you walk in the door, and this place stunk to high heaven.

Deep fried Whole Red Snapper is fastastic! We try to go to this restaurant every time we go to Coral Springs. They have whole, deep fried red snapper which is consistently excellent. My wife's favorite dish. I always try something else. This time was a Cuban pulled pork type dish. It was very mild. I expected a little more complex flavor and was surprised that this dish was so popular but it was apparently authentic because the place is consistently filled with Cubans and other Hispanics. Lots of families. We enjoyed it!

Decent food and margaritas - went with friends cause were in the area. We had the combo and steak fajitas - well seasoned, good value. The person who recommended the place has his favorite ropa vieja enchiladas And was happy with them. Service was attentive and fast. Will be back.

If there were 5,000 stars, that would be my true rating for El Mariachi. I have been going to them since they were named Los Compadres, and the only thing I have ever ordered since I was 7 is Lechon Asado (with extra limes). In fact, that is the only thing everyone in my entire family orders. It is listed on my Yelp profile as my last meal before I die! Anyone who has given El Mariachi less than 5 stars has obviously not had this entree! I had a mini panic attack when my Mom called me (I live in NYC) and told me the location in the Publix Plaza was closed, but then they moved across the street...phew! Going home next weekend and I will be going there, of course.

Good Food and Good Service. The atmosphere is ok for the type of restaurant. The food portions were good. I will return if I want Mexican Cuisine.

Best mexican in the area! We just moved and we are definitely going to miss this place! My Fiance and I are very picky when it comes to mexican food. We judge the restaurants based on their guacomole and this place has it right! Great guacomole and salsa, very fresh! We each have had a little bit of everything here. Their steak is seasoned to perfection and very yummy! My Fiance loves their fajitas. I love their chimichanga. The only disappointments have been the service and their alcoholic drinks. They are both just average. They would get a full five stars if the service was a bit more attentive and their drinks were better but overall we have been here numerous times and would definitely go back!

El Yummy-o! We've been here three times in the past few weeks and the verdict is in. WE LOVE IT! Their chicken enchiladas are so freaking good. Get these if nothing else. They're served Mexican style but if you're craving tex-mex (which I'm sure most people in South Florida are not) just take the sour cream that comes on the side and apply it inside. Add a handful of jalapeños and there you go. Great tamales. Taste homemade. They call it a Tamal because they say it's Cuban style. It has a slightly sweet taste and is the best tamale i've had outside of Texas. You can add a tamale to any meal. Fajitas come with LOTS of peppers and onions. The chicken has some delicious rub and is juicy. The churrasco steak was great. Oily but not too heavy. Cooked to order (I recommend medium). Chimichurri sauce is right on. White rice and black beans like you're at a cuban cafe. They were not over seasoned like most places. The platanos are just perfect: sweet, soft and crispy/chewy on the edges. I say skip the tacos. Nothing really special there. All of their beef is a stewed beef which makes the meat very tender and juicy. I like my tacos on the oily side though. This stewed steak did make a very good burrito (El Ray) but it was too filling. The chile relleno that comes with their combo is not the same as getting it by itself. With the combo it's not spicy all (and I mean at all). It was like eating a regular bell pepper. It is not battered or deep fried. If you order it alone, as a dish, it's as it should be. Most of their dishes do not come out spicy. So, you have to ask for it specifically. Try the verde salsa and a side of jalapeños. The chips and regular salsa are good (but not world shaking). The house margarita tasted like a slushy. Couldn't taste anything but lime and ice. Will have to try a top-shelf one and test. Their bottled Dos Equis is a little on the expensive side but not outrageous. Both the inside and outside areas are nice. Decorated well and not over the top. So far all the staff we've encountered have been friendly and easy.

Staff was nice, food wasn't so good. Guacamole was old and had no taste. Chimichanga was bland. I was asked if I wanted dark meat or white meat. Strange. No taste or spice. Disappointed.

they say they deliver but they really don't!!!!! spoke to a women over the phone and she said she had to ask her boss and then said only for a minimum order of $30. they really shouldn't offer delivery if they really don't deliver.

Won't be going back. Tried the cheese dip which was grainy like the sauce had broken. My wife's happy hour margaritas was mostly mix. Service was lackluster. My wife commented that we were the forgotten table. When our rellenos arrived, we were surprised to find they were not battered. Instead, the Chile's were just cut in half and had cheese melted in them. The refried beans had a slightly odd taste. Best to skip this place.

Food is good but not enough waiters when they get crowded. Service started out fast at 630 PM and by 715pm took 10 mins for our server to appear. Not sure why an established food place like this doesn't realize that??

  • Joe D.

Aside from the ditsy hostesses who first sat us next to the kitchen and then with some young children (adults typically prefer sitting away from screaming youngsters), the meal was great. Service was exceptional and the drinks were perfect. Our waiter, Mario, was perfect.

  • Danny S.

I've been here 3 times, and so far the food has always been consistent and exceptionally delicious! The margaritas are strong and the food portions are generous. Pricing is well set, not expensive at all for the quality they bring to the table. I've had excellent luck with the "tampiquena" and the burritos are all delicious! As an appetizer, the lechon tamales are the best I've ever had. I am extremely picky and critical when it comes to Mexican restaurants because they are so many good ones out there, this one however is in my top 3. The staff is friendly and attentive. Ask for Hector at the bar! He is there Wednesday's and Friday nights, he is an extremely good and attentive mixologist, in addition to a great personality! Will return soon to this place! Side note: the chips and salsa are fantastic, they offer mild and hot! Both delicious!

  • Sally W.

Great wait staff, very attentive. Everyone enjoyed their food, and drinks, I especially loved the Pomegranate Margarita. I ordered the El Mariachi Trio, which consisted of a beef taco, a chicken enchilada, and a chili rellano. The chili rellano is the reason I'm not giving 4 stars. The chili rellano had no breading or egg coating, it was simply a poblano pepper with cheese in it. It was very hot because the seeds had not been removed. Also, I asked to substitute a pork taco for the beef taco and was charged an extra 2 dollars for the substitution. I've had the Senor Tacos Pork, before and loved them!

I haven't been to El Mariachi 's new location on University drive near royal palm blvd until tonight. I am happy to say that the food is still excellent, the service is prompt and polite and it was an overall good experience. I was really surprised that there was not a big crowd for Saturday night dinner. It is a little pricey if you want Mexican. The Cuban specialties are my favorite!

This place is the WORST mexican restaurant on the planet. You should only eat here if you are absolutely starving and have NO other choices including the deli at Publix. In the 10 years I've lived near this place, I'm always amazed at what up-sell mongrels they are. In any other mexican restaurant, the first thing done is to seat you AND bring tortilla chips and salsa. But our server, Leonel, asked if we wanted to order an appetizer. No, the first thing I want is a beer, and please bring chips and salsa. But senor, do you not want an appetizer like guacamole?? No, I will tell you when I want something. The tortilla chips are the WORST I've ever tasted and the salsa has absolutely no flavor at all. I asked for some HOT salsa and I guess they had to make it because it took 10 minutes for it to come to the table. When I ordered my meal, he AGAIN starts up-selling it, trying to divert me to a more expensive dinner. And when I corrected him, he tried again! Now I'm really annoyed. Disappointing refried beans but at least the rice was okay. Now, for the worst part of the experience. Two employees were setting up a seating arrangement in the dining area next to us and they were dragging and scooting the chairs across the floor. They made so much noise you couldn't even focus on a conversation. Finally, I had to ask Leonel to tell them to PICK the stupid chairs up and set them down. Imagine how crazy I almost became when they came over to our dining area to do the SAME THING at the tables right next to us! Thank goodness they got the clue and carefully picked the chairs up and set them down. Overall, the service is slow, they spend too much time up-selling you for things you don't want or need and the food is barely mediocre at best. In fact, I'm german and my mexican food is better than what they serve and twice as fast!

Excellent food and service even late night. We came to La Mariachi for some late night Cuban eats (11:00pm) and found everything to be excellent. I ordered the Churasco steak ($22) and my g/f ordered the chcharrones de pollo (fried chicken chunks) ($14) both were excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chicken chunks were quite tasty. The service was also friendly and very fast. I've come here quite a bit for Mexican food (which I've grown tired of) but never had Cuban food here. I can tell you it was really good (even 30 min. before closing). We also ordered Cafe con Leche and it was excellent. Really happy to find late night Cuban food in Coal Springs. Thanks to fellow Yelpers Dan I C and Jesse for spotting this place. You rock boys!!

My grandmother and her friend were visiting, so after a morning of random bargain shopping, we wanted to stop for some lunch. My mom pulled into this plaza because she thought there was a Chinese buffet in it, but apparently it had closed. So I said, "hey there's a Mexican place over there", as I knew getting back in the car would result in arguing between my mother and her mother-in-law. We sat inside, and as it was just before noon I think we were the first people there. Started off with some chips and salsa and guacamole, all tasty. Grandma and friend has burritos, I got a chimi, and mom got the lechon asado. All tasty, and everyone was satisfied.

I love this restaurant! Make sure its the one at 2153 N University, not the other one on wiles rd. (I think thats were the reviewers are getting confused!) This is the mariachi that is just south of royal palm where Michaels craft store is and Doris Italian grocery and deli are (also the best places). Their food has the real Latin flavors, not the tex-mex imitations. For their happy hour they serve frosted margaritas at a discount. Yummy! My favorites are the beef fajitas and the beef carnitas. They also have live entertainment on Saturday nights. I have always had a good experience with the management at this location, even when they used to be at the Publics shopping center on University near Atlantic. Great Place!

Great Mexican restaurant! Haven't been here in years because I don't live close to it, but happen to be In the area recently so we stopped in!! All was really good food, had the guacamole for appetizer, delish, and had the chicken fajitas for dinner, very good taste to the meal! Chips and salsa were very fresh and tasty also!! Service was very attentive!! Stop in and check it out you won't be disappointed!!

This was our first time eating here. They have a nice layout and ambiance, live music out on the patio (it was a Friday night) the wait for a table wasn't terrible and the service was decent for how busy they were. The food came out hot, and had great flavor. My husband's meal was said to be spicy, but he said it wasn't at all. Which means it was probably medium! All in all it was a decent meal, not amazing or out of the ordinary, just good.

Jesse is THE Man! I've been here several times and as Jesse pointed out I failed to review it. Either I'm slipping in my old age or I just plain forgot. The food is good along with the service. I also like the fact you can sit outside. My only issue is that I love crab burritos and they don't make one. That's the main reason why I don't go here that often. Ill keep this review short and say, Read Jesse's Review and tell them he sent you. Stay Hungry!

My husband and I visited on a Monday evening. It was very slow, we were one of maybe 5 tables in the entire place. Food: He had the Cuban burritos, served with French fries, and was impressed. I had the Tilapia tacos and was not so impressed, the tilapia in each taco was on the skimpy side, and was very watery. The tacos were served with yellow rice and pinto beans that were nothing impressive. Drinks: house margaritas where on special for $4 each (until 7pm) so I had one. It was fine, but I wouldn't order another unless it was on special again. Overall I'd say it was a mediocre experience. However given the off night, its convenient proximity to our condo, and the difference in my and my husbands opinion we will likely give it another chance in the future. I'll be sure to update when we do!

I love this place. The people are always very friendly and attentive. This is my go to spot in Broward county for my churrasco steak. They always cook it perfectly and the food is always fresh. We were there two nights ago and the portions seemed to have increased. That includes the size of the glass of sangria. I'll take that!

  • Jessie L.

Wow... dinner started out great... chips with guacamole and salsa were delicious! my husband and I both ordered burritos.. they started out pretty tasty. Then....... my husband takes a bite of his burrito about halfway through, chews twice, then pulls out a huge piece of plastic!! It was like the plastic that is used to package chicken and beef with. Obviously he was immediately disgusted. First of all, who knows where the plastic came from or where it had been. Second of all, he could have swallowed it, choked, etc. Worse than finding a hair in your food. So we call the server, we show him the plastic. He took it back to the kitchen then asked if we wanted another, we politely declined. He then brought out the bill, my husband's meal was not charged but we never got an "I'm sorry about that" from the server or anyone else in the establishment. I thought that was poor service. We will not return.

I had avoided this place based on the complete lack of reviews, but I decided tonight to give it a shot anyway. It turns out, there are TWO El Mariachi entries in Yelp both with the same address, menu, etc. One has reviews on it, and the OTHER blank one comes up when searching. Anyway, don't let the confusion keep you away. I went with the Milanesa for my first visit, and it was excellent. Tender and tasty, with a lovely thin slice of ham on top of the steak, great sauce. Even the side were great. Finished up with a nice espresso. Staff was friendly and helpful. In fact, it was, I believe, the manager who pointed out the Yelp entry with actual info on it, as the only one I had seen to that point was the blank. I will certainly be back.

Horrible meal. We came from LA land of great Mexican Food. My daughter told the waiter that the tacos tasted like dog food. Beans and rice tasked canned and boxed. Not so good. Service was not great. Waiter gave us bill with out even asking if we wanted dessert. Yucky food + bad service means we won't be back.

Music on Saturday night. Fun outdoor experience, dog-friendly with an expansive Mexican and Cuban dishes to select. The Cuban food is acceptable and the Mexican food looked very appealing. The black beans taste as if heated from a can. However the steak empanizado, breaded, was very tasty as was the Lechon Asado, roasted pig. The service is spot on. But the best part is the crowd, friendly and lively with the one man musician on the electric piano. Fantastic to enjoy watching others dancing while we ate our meal. Loved the outdoor fun for a Saturday night. Definitely will be back soon.

Love their lechon asado, and also their fajitas. This is our favorite Mexican and Cuban place to go in Coral Springs. Great menu with tons of choices and I have never been disappointed. Not my favorite atmosphere but the food is worth it!

I always drive by and see lots of cars and activity so i decided to stop by and give it a try. We ordered two margarita's and they were awesome and my date got drunk off her one drink which was another bonus. Both our meals were great and our dinner didn't break the bank. Overall a great experience. I think the food and drinks here are better than La bamba.

This restaurant doesn't even deserve a star, have visited many times with family & friends and this bar far was the worst visit ever. Staff was extremely rude, rushed us, brought the wrong food, never came to ask if we needed anything. Asked several times for a manager never came then finally we asked someone else for a manager and he brought over a manager which instead of being customer service person he said what do you want me to do? So rude it just so happened that the owner was there and was the same way do you want a free margarita for your complaint? No we wanted to be treated nice and an apology for the horrible service and food would have been appreciated.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mexican/Cuban food. My absolute favorite is Arroz con Pollo. I've asked if they can make it, and they say that they can't. I know its not a menu item but they said that they don't have roasted chicken. I'm sorry for being inflexible, but I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve Arroz con Pollo. My favorite Cuban dish is the Palomino Steak. I tried it and I was given a piece of steak with virtually no onions. I put the onions on, the steak had zero flavor, and the onions were soggy and mushy. The architecture is great and the servers are really nice. If they would just add the Arroz con Pollo, I would give this place five stars.

Everything is fresh made, with authentic and delicious tastes. We've been working our way through the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. When the rice and beans, whether cuban or mexican style, are equally delicious as the prepared entrees, then you know you have a restaurant that takes pride in the details and freshness of its menu. We ordered tortilla soup and it was honestly the most succulent, rich beef consume broth I'd ever eaten, full of hearty melt-in-your-mouth chunks of beef. The service has always been prompt, the staff friendly, and margarita monday is easy on the wallet. Fantastic! Provecho!
